PHOENIX (AZFamily)— A deadly motorcycle crash blocked part of a Phoenix freeway on Monday morning, causing a major backup for drivers.

It happened just before 1:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near 16th Street in Phoenix when, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a motorcyclist lost control for unknown reasons and crashed. No other vehicles were involved, and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

A motorcycle could be seen on the roadway as troopers blocked off the area. The HOV lane was shut down from 16th Street to the 18th Street pedestrian bridge, but crews reopened all lanes around 5:40 a.m.

The person who was killed has not yet been identified.
