CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily) — A Chandler middle schooler is proving that kindness can change the world, one essay at a time, and that’s Something Good!

Caroline Wu is a 6th grader at Arizona College Prep Middle School near Alma School Road and Chandler Boulevard. She won the 2025 Be Kind Make A Difference National Essay Contest!

The Be Kind People Project rolled out a red carpet in style with a Wetzel’s Pretzel Party to celebrate, thanks to the franchise owner, Steve Leibsohn.

The second and third place winners from another classroom were also invited to celebrate their accomplishments. There were cheers and claps all around for the special celebration!

The essay challenge encourages students to reflect on values like kindness, honesty and respect. Caroline says she wrote about her family in China and how important her grandparents and great-grandparents are to her — a reminder that kindness or even a powerful essay can spark change far beyond the classroom.

“I just feel really, really happy and really good. And I’m so glad the judges see how much I really care for my family and how much I really care about taking care of other people,” said Caroline. “If you like look around, all of my classmates are very, very happy.”

Congratulations Caroline!
