Body found in Surprise landfill identified as Phoenix woman

Investigators say the body found at a Surprise landfill last week is a Phoenix woman but they won't release her name.

SURPRISE, AZ (AZFamily) — Investigators have identified the human remains found at a landfill in Surprise last week as a Phoenix woman, but stopped short of releasing her name.

The woman’s body was discovered by an employee at WM’s Northwest Regional Landfill near 195th Avenue and Deer Valley Road just before 7 a.m. last Thursday, April 17. The remains were confirmed to be human, and an investigation began.

Working with the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner, the body has been identified as a Phoenix woman. However, Surprise police are withholding her name until her family has been notified.

No updates were released on the manner or cause of the woman’s death.
