Authorities identify man who drowned in jet ski accident at Lake Pleasant
LAKE PLEASANT, AZ (AZFamily) — Authorities have identified the man who drowned after his jet ski overturned at Lake Pleasant on Sunday afternoon.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said they responded to Scorpion Bay around 3 p.m. for a welfare check. When they arrived, they learned that two people, 43-year-old Tejan Sesay and his wife, were riding a jet ski and attempted to make a U-turn when it flipped over.
Deputies say a person on a nearby boat noticed the couple were struggling after the jet ski flipped and attempted to help them.
MSCO said Sesay was pulled from the water, and a passerby started CPR. Deputies then resumed compressions, and fire crews took over once they arrived. Sesay died at the scene.
His wife was not injured. She told deputies that the jet ski had a mechanical issue and they were trying to return to the dock when they made a U-turn and fell off. Both were wearing life jackets.
“It’s a pretty sad incident. There’s a lot that goes on at this lake, and I wish we had more resources and personnel that could monitor situations like this,” Brenda Patrick from Desert Breeze Kayaking, who was out at the lake when the incident happened, said. “It is heartbreaking to hear that this happened today.”
As the weather gets warmer, MCSO Public Information Officer David Moyer said, “People need to pay attention to the water. They need to pay attention to other boaters. Everything changes here frequently, and during the day it can go from one extreme to the next.”
