Evacuations lifted after Brady Fire burns near community southeast of Prescott

People who were evacuated from their homes southeast of Prescott because of the Brady Fire were allowed to return to their homes on Wednesday.

PRESCOTT, AZ (AZFamily) — Evacuations have been lifted for residents of Pine Flat, a community southeast of Prescott after the Brady Fire broke out earlier in the week.

Northern Arizona residents had been on high alert after the wildfire near Bradshaw Road, north of Pine Flat, flared up on Monday.

The fire grew to 400 acres with no containment as of Tuesday morning. Officials had said several homes were threatened within a mile of the flames.

Yavapai County Emergency Management has set up an emergency phone bank to assist area residents regarding evacuations and shelter locations. It can be reached at (928) 442-5103.

Smoke could be seen in surrounding areas like Prescott, Prescott Valley, Dewey, Mayer and Spring Valley. Mayer-Goodwin Road was also closed.

At this time, fire crews are working on containing the blaze with nearly 150 personnel are assigned to the Brady Fire.

“Most of the people in Yavapai County are familiar with these types of situations. They understand why we’re there. We very rarely have conflict within the community, scores when we let them know that it’s you know it’s time to evacuate,” Sgt. Blake Lanoue, with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, said.

There was an evacuation shelter set up at Mayer High School in Spring Valley.

Large Animal Sheltering and Emergency Readiness (LASER) was offering shelter for barn animals at Arizona Downs in Prescott Valley.

There is no word yet on how the fire started.
