‘They saved our homes:’ Man impacted by Eaton Fire thanks Arizona fire crews
ALTADENA, CA (AZFamily) — As the Eaton Fire rages through the San Fernando Valley, many are looking for helpers, many of whom are coming from Arizona to assist those impacted by evacuations and lost homes.
Arizona’s Family anchor Jared Dillingham caught up with a father and son putting out small fires that started in their yard.
They tell Arizona’s Family they were relieved to see crews from Arizona arrive at the community to help contain the blaze.
“The house that’s right here. If it wasn’t for the Arizona crew that came in ... to put this fire out right here, it would have caught onto the next house and would’ve wiped all our homes right there.”
“So that Arizona crew that came in; I really appreciate you,” the man said. “They saved our homes.”
Also on Thursday, fire crews in Buckeye helped a woman named “Diane” who was fleeing Altadena and driving through the Valley to visit family in Texas.
Buckeye fire crews say she got a flat tire and state troopers helped her arrive in Utah but her cat still needed to be rescued from the steering column underneath the dash.
At least five people were killed and thousands of structures were burned as fierce wildfires raged in the Los Angeles area, officials said Thursday.
Fast-moving flames blazed through homes and businesses as residents fled smoke-filled canyons and picturesque neighborhoods that are home to many celebrities.
Gov. Gavin Newsom said California has deployed more than 1,400 firefighting personnel to battle the blazes. Oregon, Washington, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona were dispatching teams to assist.
AccuWeather, a private company that provides data on weather and its impact, increased its estimate of the damage and economic loss to $135 billion to $150 billion.
