PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A stray dog that the Arizona Humane Society found and rescued rang in the new year with the group’s first litter of puppies in 2025.

AHS said one of its emergency animal medical technicians discovered the 2-year-old American pit bull terrier, affectionately known as “Midnight,” on Monday.

After she was examined, AHS veterinarians uncovered that even though the dog was very thin, she was also very pregnant.

She was admitted to the shelter’s Mutternity Suites.

Then, on Wednesday night, she gave birth to five adorable little puppies.

Midnight and her puppies will soon head to a foster home until they are 8 weeks old and ready for adoption, AHS said.

Whoever fosters the dog family will determine the puppies’ names.

The Arizona Humane Society said more than 2,800 mothers and puppies have been born and cared for in AHS’ Mutternity Suites since it opened at the end of 2017.

AHS is currently seeking foster placement for various pets, including a group of 6-week-old pups who can be taken in pairs of two for socialization and weight gain.
