Dog finds furever home after spending over a month in Arizona Humane Society ICU

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A dog has found his furever home after spending over a month in intensive care at the Arizona Humane Society.

Junum, a two-year-old Shepherd mix, made a miraculous recovery after he was seriously injured while trying to climb a fence.

On July 31, the AHS Dispatch Team received a call from the Phoenix Police Department about a dog that had reportedly tried to climb a wire fence and impaled itself. Some details may be graphic.

AHS Emergency Animal Medical Technicians arrived and found the sweet pup had a large cut on its stomach, with its intestines coming out of its body. The team immediately rushed Junum to the animal hospital for emergency surgery, where veterinarians removed over five feet of intestine.

Junum then stayed in the shelter’s ICU for over a month to recover. He received daily care and dental surgery. Junum defied all odds, and the healed pooch lives happily with his new family in Buckeye.

Junum is just one of the 22,000 sick, injured and abused animals that AHS cares for each year.

Although Junum found his forever home, many animals await their new family. AHS is currently waiving adoption fees for big dogs over 50 pounds.
