PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A dog that was rescued from Lookout Mountain in Phoenix thanks to its special eyes is now up for adoption, the Arizona Humane Society said on Monday.

Bright Eyes, an adorable 2-year-old Shar-Pei mix, is looking for a furever home and is currently at AHS’ Papago Park campus in Phoenix.

On April 24, a hiker spotted the pup hiding in a small cutout on the side of Lookout Mountain, near 16th Street and Greenway Parkway, about a half-mile up a narrow, winding and slippery trail, AHS said.

It’s unclear how long the scared dog was there, since her tan fur blended well with the rocks and dirt, and the good Samaritan only spotted her because of her amber eyes reflected from her hiding spot. So she was given the name “Bright Eyes.”

The hiker stayed with the dog until Tracey Miiller and Ruthie Jesus with AHS got up to the mountain.

Bright Eyes was shy but open to receiving care. The two AHS workers said she was dangerously dehydrated, and her paws were cut up. She also had a wound on her hind leg.

Miiller and Jesus took turns carrying the dog down the mountain because she was too injured to walk down.

Bright Eyes was then loaded into an ambulance and underwent treatment for her injuries.

After receiving care, she also got a spa day to help her get ready to be adopted, which included a bath and a haircut to get all the dust and dirt out of her fur she got while on the mountain.

To help make room for more animals, AHS is offering $0 adoption fees for all dogs 6 months and older, including Bright Eyes, until Friday. BISSELL Pet Foundation helped make it happen.
