PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - A young dog is looking for a new home after being rescued from a car engine bay earlier this month. Nova, a 2-year-old Weimaraner mix, needed a helping paw after an adventurous moment of chasing a cat ended with her being trapped inside a car.

On Jan. 19, the Arizona Humane Society helped a dog stuck inside a 1967 Chevy Nova near 67th Avenue and Camelback Road. The 49-pound pup wedged herself deep into the small space. It took about 15 minutes for crews to wiggle Nova out of the engine bay gently, and once freed, she was a happy pooch with endless tail wags. AHS field operations manager Ruthie Jesus says she has never seen a full-sized dog like Nova be pulled out of a car in her ten years of working in the field.

Nova was taken to the AHS trauma hospital for some minor injuries to her ears, but overall, she was a healthy canine. She received a spay surgery and is now up for adoption at the Arizona Humane Society South Mountain Campus.

The Arizona Humane Society cares for nearly 22,000 pets each year. If you’re interested in helping an adult dog find their fur-ever home, AHS says adoption fees are currently $49. To learn more about adoptions with the Arizona Humane Society, click here.
