PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — The Arizona Humane Society recently welcomed its first litter of puppies of the new year. Ten tiny, precious American Pit Bull terriers were born Monday night, Jan. 8, in AHS’ “Mutternity Suites.”

The pups were born into a safe environment after the 2-year-old mother, Cookie, was rescued when her previous owner couldn’t take care of her anymore and gave her up to the shelter. Veterinarians, while giving her a medical exam, quickly learned that she was pregnant soon about to give birth. The pups haven’t yet been named, at least not until they get to their foster homes and are named by their foster parents.

The AHS says the family is the most recent 11 to the more than 2,200 moms and puppies the non-profit’s Mutternity Suites were opened back at the end of 2017. The organization is looking for more foster homes for over 50 pets, including three mothers and 23 puppies. For those interested, you can sign up at Arizona Humane Society’s foster page.
