Nine 2-week-old puppies found in dumpster inside trash bag, Las Vegas animal shelter says
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - A Las Vegas animal shelter is treating eight two-week old puppies that were found in a dumpster inside a trash bag.
One puppy was euthanized because of blood in its chest.
The Animal Foundation says that a Good Samaritan rescued the puppies and they are safe at the shelter.
The shelter says the person responsible is in police custody. The Animal Foundation thanks the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Animal Protective Services.
The puppies came to the shelter with their mother and two other dogs. They were found with a “cleaning product” inside the trash bag. The shelter says they don’t know the effects of the product yet on the puppies.
“These are tiny, vulnerable puppies who barely have their eyes open, and someone chose to throw them away like trash,” The Animal Foundation said. “Thanks to the hero who heard their cries, they’re now getting a fresh start. Due to their young age, the puppies are highly susceptible to illness. Ideally, they will move into a foster home to give them the best chance at thriving outside the shelter environment.”
FOX5 is reaching out to Las Vegas police to learn more about the suspect. We are also reaching out to The Animal Foundation to learn more about the puppies.
