Arizona Humane Society chosen to receive grant to help senior dogs
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Arizona Humane Society has been chosen among hundreds of applicants to receive a grant that will help hundreds of senior dogs get the care they deserve.
AHS was among the 100 animal welfare groups chosen to receive the Grey Muzzle Grant from the nonprofit Grey Muzzle Organization. Over the last 16 years, the nonprofit has provided over $5.7 million to help senior dogs and ensure “no old dog dies alone and afraid.” AHS was chosen among 400 applicants for the grant.
The grant will allow the Arizona Humane Society to help many beloved dogs and their families, including ones like Odi. Staff say Odi’s owner grew concerned when the beloved pup was having trouble walking, lost control of his bladder, was experiencing loss of appetite and shaking.
Odi’s owners reached out to AHS for help since they could not afford his vet bills. Thanks to the grant and AHS’ Bridge the Gap program, Odi’s medical expenses were all covered. The 10-year-old pup is now enjoying his golden years!
AHS’ Bridge the Gap Program helps pet parents receive resources to help keep their beloved animals in their forever homes.
“We are so grateful for the Grey Muzzle Grant, and look forward to helping more senior dogs get the second chance they all deserve,” Dr. Steven Hansen, President and CEO of the Arizona Humane Society, said in a statement. “This grant will help us as we continue our mission of saving the most vulnerable pets and enriching the lives of pets and people.”
The winning groups will share over $1 million to help save and improve the lives of at-risk senior dogs in their respective communities.
“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we’re delighted to help deserving organizations like the Arizona Humane Society make a positive difference in the lives of dogs and people in their communities,” Grey Muzzle’s Executive Director Lisa Lunghofer said. “Many senior dogs in the Phoenix Valley are enjoying their golden years in loving homes thanks to the lifesaving work of AHS.”
