Officers responded to reports of a body found near 50th Street and Van Buren Avenue around noon.

When they arrived, they were told that a demolition crew was about to demolish a decades-old house where they found the remains. Aerial video showed a heavy police presence in a desert area located on Tovrea Castle property. At this point, it’s unclear if foul play is suspected or if the death appears suspicious.

“It is the Caretakers House from the 1930s and was being demolished due to damage from several microbursts,” a spokesperson for Tovrea Carraro Society, the group that preserves the landmark, told Arizona’s Family. “We are anxious to find out who it is and what happened...”

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office is now working to identify the remains and determine the manner of death.
