Who is Arizona’s Family?
Arizona’s Family is the combination of 3TV (KTVK-TV), CBS 5 (KPHO-TV), and Arizona’s Family Sports (KPHE-LD 44, KAZS-TV 27, KOLD-TV 13.3, and KAZF-TV 32).
Proudly owned by Gray Media, Arizona’s Family is the largest television news organization in the Grand Canyon State, producing more than 100 hours of live news, sports, and entertainment programming every week.
Our History
For over 75 years, Arizona’s Family has been the premier local news, weather, sports, and entertainment destination in the Phoenix metro and throughout Arizona.
The journey began on December 4, 1949, when KPHO-TV, now known as Arizona’s Family CBS 5, became Arizona’s first television station from its studios on Central Ave. in Phoenix. Until 1955, KPHO-TV broadcast programs from various networks, after which it operated as an independent TV station for 40 years. During this period, KPHO-TV was at the forefront of local programming, launching one of the longest-running children’s TV shows in the United States, The Wallace and Ladmo Show.
In 1955, a group led by Arizona Governor Ernest McFarland launched KTVK-TV Channel 3, the fourth television station in the Phoenix area. The station started as an ABC affiliate and quickly became the top television station in the Phoenix market. Between 1994 and 1995, multiple stations in Phoenix changed affiliations, resulting in KTVK becoming one of the few independent television stations in the United States. KTVK 3TV maintained its popularity even after losing its network affiliation. To this day, 3TV remains one of the most-watched and recognized television stations in Arizona.
On April 28, 2023, Arizona’s Family and Gray Media announced a transformative media rights deal with the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury to bring every locally broadcast game to all Arizona viewers for free on 3TV and Arizona’s Family Sports.
In June 2024, Arizona’s Family became the official home of the Arizona Cardinals Football Club.
